Description : On October 22nd, the Yonkers Veterans Affairs Clinic will have its annual Community Services and Health Fair from 10am-3pm. We welcome all Yonkers area veterans and their families to join us to tour our clinic, meet our staff and learn about local community resources helpful to veterans. We will provide influenza vaccinations to veterans during the fair; H1N1 vaccines will also be given if they are available by this time. Yonkers veterans can take advantage of a variety of services offered by our clinic during the fair. Our physicians will be counseling and treating patients who are interested in quitting smoking. Our physicians will also offer prostate cancer screening advice. Our social worker will advise patients on advanced directives, health care proxies and home care. An on-site psychiatrist will screen patients and set up appointments for treatment of depression, PTSD, stress and other common mental health concerns. We have an OIF/OEF counselor available who is a veteran herself who will provide information on special services available to veterans of this conflict. Lastly, a nutritionist will offer brief weight loss counseling and referrals to our comprehensive weight loss and exercise program. We are fortunate to have a number of community services to meet and offer help to veterans during this fair. These include Medicaid, food stamps, paratransit and office of the aging. Attorneys from legal services will offer free consultations during the fair. Representatives from the Veterans Service Agency next door will help patients with questions about applying for service-connected benefits and other entitlement programs. Our clinic has a weekly tai chi class for veterans and members of the class will offer a demonstration during the fair. Our clinic is committed to providing primary care to veterans in a friendly, caring environment. Most of our staff members are veterans or have immediate family members who are veterans. If you are a veteran and would like to receive care in our clinic, please make an appointment during the health fair or call 914-375-8055 to register and make an appointment. We are located at 124 New Main Street in Yonkers.
