WVOX radio will host a call-in from sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln tomorrow during its “Veterans Radio Segment” at 8:35 a.m. Two local sailors will be on air to thank Girl Scouts for boxes of cookies received by each of the 5,000 crew members on the Abraham Lincoln, which is currently deployed in the Arabian Sea.
The veterans segment is a regular Friday feature of Bob Marrone’s “Good Morning Westchester Show,’’ which airs weekdays from 6 to 9 a.m. on the New Rochelle-based station. The segment is organized by Kenneth G. Kraetzer of the Sons of the American Legion Post 50 in Pelham.
To hear the program, make sure your radio is tuned to 1460 AM. Recordings of past veterans segments are available by visiting Post 50’s website.

Hello Rich. I wasn’t sure where to go with this, so I’ll post here… Thank you.
A few lines to announce the release of my new novel, “Firing at Shadows”. A great read for veterans of the Vietnam era and anyone with an interest of that period. It’s a thoroughly entertaining view of U.S.Navy security personnel and urban life in 1968 Vietnam. You are welcome to use this, should you desire to publish a review or you can contact me for more information. Sincerely, Robert Reynolds

Story Summary: A Vietnam War novel without the typical blood & guts:
PO3 Robinson, is assigned to a Navy security unit in South Vietnam. While patrolling the streets and highways around DaNang, the people and places he encounters remind him of events that have occurred during his tour. These events and interplay shape Robinson’s emerging character. The seemingly routine night bursts alive when the enemy fires a salvo of rockets which overshoot their intended target and land in a village. He volunteers to escort a Navy ambulance to the scene. Once there, he defies his superior and enters the village to help bring out the casualties. This is no typical VN War novel with troops battling in the jungles. It’s a story of a young sailor’s developing character through events that occur and his decision to ‘do the right thing’ even if it means defying his superiors. Rich in local color and colorful characters. A great read, especially for those who served in South East Asia.
Author Bio: Former United States Navy Serviceman Robert Reynolds was born and raised in Gladwin, Michigan. He served 27 months in a Navy physical security unit that provided protection for Navy facilities in and around DaNang, South Vietnam. After being discharged from service, he returned to Vietnam, where he worked in a civilian capacity for more than three years. Many of the events depicted in this book are fictional recreations based on his experiences during that tumultuous period. Mr. Reynolds now lives in DeSoto, Texas.
