Six decades after shedding their blood under the American flag, Filipino veterans of World War II are hoping that the U.S. will finally recognize their sacrifices by awarding them veterans benefits, according to this story from the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
“Tens of thousands gave their lives. Many underwent indescribable hardship and torture. Thousands fell in the Bataan Death March,†said WIlli Gaa, Philippine Ambassador to the U.S. said during a speech in support of his country’s WWII vets.
The report notes that the U.S. Senate has approved a bill that would provide pensions to 18,000 Filipino veterans. The house version is still pending.
