Veterans who served in combat, from World War II to the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, will read some of their poetry next Monday, May 12, at the Over the Rainbow cafe in Nyack. The readings will be from Post Traumatic Press 2007
, an anthology by veterans who participated in a writing workshop in the Lower Hudson Valley last year.
From the press release:
Through poetry, prose and song, this book tells the stories of veterans with direct experience of the military. For some, the intense experience of war can only be expressed in writing, while others are driven by the need to say something openly political. The book includes veterans from World War II, the Cold War, the Vietnam War, peace time and the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Over the Rainbow is located at 35 Hudson Ave., at the corner of South Broadway. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the event, which will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Open mic participants can sign up before and after the scheduled readings.
