If you are a service member who has qualified for the Afghanistan Campaign Medal (ACM) or the Iraq Campaign Medal (ICM), you may soon be able to display a bronze campaign star on your medal for each campaign phase you participated in.
The Department of Defense made an announcement today that campaign stars are authorized for wear on the ACM and ICM. They will be worn on the suspension and campaign ribbon of the campaign medal.
The campaign stars recognize that a service member took part in DoD designated campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The campaign phases and dates for the ACM are:
Liberation of Afghanistan – Sept. 11, 2001 to Nov. 30, 2001.
Consolidation I – Dec. 1, 2001 to Sept. 30, 2006.
Consolidation II – Oct. 1, 2006 to a date to be determined.
The campaign phases and associated dates for the ICM are:
Liberation of Iraq – March 19, 2003 to May 1, 2003.
Transition of Iraq – May 2, 2003 to June 28, 2004.
Iraqui Governance – June 29, 2004 to Dec. 15, 2005.
National Resolution – Dec. 16, 2005 to a date to be determined.

I have a question no one can seem to answer. Sailors on ship with in the 12 mile zone of Iraq can earn the Iraq Campaign Medal. BUT if they also are on ship sending flights over Afganistan to fight for there freedom why cant they get an Afganistan Campaign Medal as well. WHY ONLY THE PILOTS. It took the team to get them up there the full Carrier Group !! Why are the sailors ignored ?? Also on another note Navy Seals are recognised why dont they acnoledge the VBSS teams on Carrier groups. They search for drugs and weapons not knowing what they’ll find. SOME have died doing this. Thankyou.
