Westchester’s Vietnam Vets award scholarships

April
9

Westchester’s Chapter 49 of Vietnam Veterans of America has announced that six local high schoolers have been named as winners of the group’s annual scholarship award.

The recipients, all the sons or daughters of veterans who served on active duty, will receive $600 each to help with college or vocational school costs. Along with information on their scholastic achievements and extra-curricular activities, each winner had to submit an essay on the affect their mother or father’s military service had on their attitudes toward life and country.

Congratulations to the winners and to Chapter 49 for honoring their own by helping out the kids of those who served. Click here to learn more about the scholarship program or to obtain application forms for next year.

This year’s winners are:

Michael C. Brill, Somers High School, who received the Pete Lambert Memorial Scholarship.

Jerry A. Battipaglia, Somers High School, who received the Peter T. McCauley Memorial Scholarship.

Peter M. Spengeman, Hendrick Hudson High School, who received the Hamilton Fish Memorial Scholarship.

Alexandra B. Kaye, White Plains High School, who received the WIlliam Sudderth Memorial Scholarship.
