Every little bit helps

For veterans living on a fixed income, every little bit helps.
Veterans and military personnel with life insurance policies managed by the Department of Veterans Affairs will soon see a reduction in their premiums, according to the VA.
Jerry Donnellan, director of Rockland County’s Veterans Service Agency alerted me to this news.
To view the announcement on the VA’s Web site, go to http://www.va.gov/opa/pressrel.
Beginning July 1, premiums for basic SGLI (Servicemembers’ group Life Insurance) will be 6.5 cents per month for $1,000, instead of 7 cents. That may not sound like a lot, but it means a 7 percent saving, says the VA.
Service members with $400,000 of coverage will see their premiums reduced from $28 to $26.
This reduction was made possible because of lower non-combat related claims and increase in investment earnings, the VA says.
